Born in Oral, raised in Astana
Miras Zhugunussov was born on January 20, 2000, in the city of Aksai, near Oral (Uralsk), located in the northwest of Kazakhstan. However, he spent his entire childhood and adolescence in Astana.
He was raised in an artistic family. Indeed his father, Erbolat Zhugunussov, is a former dancer and choreographer, and his mother, Ainur Zhugunussova, is an actress and producer. She is also the president of the public republican association “Kazakh Mothers – The Path to Traditions (Kazakh Analar – Dasturge Zhol)”.

Miras is the second of four siblings. His older brother, Rustem (04.03.1995) is a former singer who stepped away from the music scene between 2021 and 2022 to fully embrace Islam and a spiritual life. His younger brother, Muhammedali (04.11.2003) is a singer who participated in The Voice Kazakhstan in 2023.The youngest of the family is the discreet Altair (24.04.2013) a football fan just like Miras.
A sports-loving kid on stage
Although he initially aspired to become an athlete or a businessman, Miras began his musical journey at a very young age. At just eight years old, he was already performing on stage alongside his brothers, Rustem and Muhammedali. Together, they eventually formed the group Zhugunussov Brothers.
On stage, they performed their own songs, as well as global hits such as “We Are the World”, “Stayin’ Alive”, and “How Deep Is Your Love”.
While singing alongside his brothers, Miras took on the role of the group’s rapper. His deep, raspy, almost torn voice contrasted with his calm, quiet personality — that of a young boy who sometimes faded into the background.
Rustem, more dominant, charismatic, and theatrical, stood out thanks to his vocal agility and ability to hit high notes, while Muhammedali charmed the audience with his high-pitched voice and youthful charisma, reminiscent of emerging international pop singers from the 2010s.
While both of them were taking part in singing contests and winning prizes, Miras was focusing on football, karate, basketball and chess.
In 2014, the Zhugunussov Brothers gained attention with the release of a song titled “Astana”, along with a music video, in tribute to the capital of Kazakhstan. The song uses the melody of “I’m a Loner” by the South Korean pop-rock band CNBLUE, which sparked a minor controversy.
Giving his voice to a Disney OST
In 2016, Miras took part in the Kazakh pop adaptation of the Disney track “You’re Welcome”, from “Moana” with his brother Rustem. He was assigned the rap part, while the lead vocals were performed by Rustem.
First step as a soloist
In 2017, after collaborating with Muhat Kabylov on an initial track titled “Nagyz Maxabbat“, the Zhugunussov brothers began working on a second song.
However, as preparations for recording began, only Miras appeared genuinely motivated to move the project forward. His brother Rustem eventually suggested that Miras record the song as a solo artist.
Miras recorded the track, “Senimen” (With You), but it was not released immediately.
Winner of a contest in Georgia
In 2018, he took part in the “Discover Silk Road Star” contest in Batumi, Georgia, stepping in for his brother Rustem, who had fallen ill and was unable to participate.
During the competition, Miras performed three songs: one in Kazakh, one in Georgian, and the iconic rock anthem “It’s My Life” by Bon Jovi — a song that showcased the raw, husky edge of his voice.
After three rounds, he shared first place with Emilia Yagubova from Azerbaijan and Salome Mirianashvili from Georgia.
However, Emilia was ultimately declared the winner after a drawing of lots.

“WITH YOU”
While Miras was in Batumi to take part in the “Discover Silk Road Star contest”, the manager of the Zhugunussov Brothers, Elzhas Muhanali, released the track “Senimen” online.
By the following day, Miras had gained approximately 10,000 new followers on Instagram, marking a decisive turning point in his public visibility.
Upon returning to Astana, he was invited to perform for the first time as a solo artist, confirming the beginning of his individual career.

Later that same year, Miras recorded and released “Andetemin“.
The song became the first Kazakh-language track to enter the Top 100 on Apple Music, eventually reaching third place.
Secret from the stars
Miras experienced three facial paralyses — first at the age of six, then at twelve, and again at fourteen.
Due to a congenital heart condition — a small hole of two centimeters — he had to give up intense physical activity.
When he was fourteen, while playing outside with friends, he was struck by a car.
During his interview with Anara Batyrkhan for Taboo (HTK Show) he said what shocked him the most wasn’t the blood on his face, but the driver who fled the scene.
